A sports plane crashed not far from Sarajevo in Bosnia on Saturday afternoon. A couple from Burgenland died in the process.
The accident happened around 3 p.m. in the Nisici region, some 24 kilometers north of the Bosnian capital, as the Foreign Ministry in Vienna has now confirmed. According to initial expert assessments, high temperatures and unfavorable terrain may have contributed to the machine’s crash. According to the daily newspaper “Vecernje novosti”, the cause of the accident is being investigated by the Ministry of Interior of the canton of Sarajevo.
Couple from Burgenland as victims
The crash site with the crashed plane can be seen in a video from the news site klix.ba. According to ORF, the victims were a couple from Burgenland. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Austria has confirmed that two Austrians were killed in the crash of the small plane around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
There were no other passengers on board. No further information was provided for data protection reasons. The embassy is in contact with the relatives to support them in the further steps, according to a spokeswoman for the ministry.
