During the night of Tuesday, a mudslide came down in the Salzburger Lungau due to heavy rain. A farm was damaged.
The mudslides took place in the area of the Fischergraben in Thomatal, Bundschuh district in Salzburg’s Lungau. The masses of earth damaged a farm and a stable building. The animals that lived there all had to be evacuated. The residents were able to stay in the house and were unharmed. At the moment, however, people are still cut off from the outside world. The Fischergraben also overflowed its banks.
Part of the Bundschuh Landesstraße (L267) was completely muddy. That is why Lungau’s road maintenance department and a private construction company had to move in with heavy equipment. The Thomatal volunteer fire brigade arrived with 20 men and two vehicles. The Bundschuh Landesstraße will remain closed to all traffic for the time being.
“Sat on Needles”
Fire chief Volker Mörtel said in an interview with the “Krone”: “Because of the storm we were already on needles. At half past eleven the siren went off.” It was not the first time that the metro in Thomatal had moved in. Heavy mudslides also occurred in 2016, the Fischergraben overflowed its banks and the Bundschuh-Landesstraße was flooded. “The mudslides were worse this time”. says Mortl.
