Wild scenes took place last night in the Vorarlberg Alpine town of Bludenz. A 25-year-old, who had previously drunk sufficient alcohol when visiting a cafe in the station area, lost control of the steering wheel in a left turn and came to a stop against a hair salon.
According to the police, a 25-year-old man living in Nüziders discussed alcohol extensively on Monday evening in a cafe or bar near Bludenz train station. He then left the restaurant around 11 p.m. and started his car. Due to his deteriorated condition, the young man drove directly over a traffic island and the traffic sign there.
According to eyewitnesses, the man then raced at too high speed on the Bahnhofstrasse towards Hermann-Sanderstrasse. In the left turn, he lost control of the wheel, slid over the curb and ended up hitting the window of a hair salon. A federal police patrol, which had already started the chase, was able to prevent the “run-a-mok driver” – as he is called in the police broadcast – from continuing his way when he started backing up from the shop window.
The 25-year-old, who also did not have a valid driver’s license, refused an alcohol test. He is now reported to the district administration in Bludenz for various administrative violations. Fortunately, no one was injured in the disaster.
