The Russian army continues its attacks on southern Ukraine. After the port of Odessa, the infrastructure of the port of the Mykolaiv region would have been shelled with rockets, the mayor said on Tuesday. Moscow denies allegations that it will not honor the grain export agreement.
“A massive missile attack on southern Ukraine was launched from the direction of the Black Sea with the help of the air force,” said Mykolaiv mayor Olexandr Senkevich. The destinations were the port of Mykolaiv and the Odessa region. Details about the two rocket attacks were not yet known on Tuesday morning. Since Odessa is one of three ports approved for grain exports, Kiev has accused Moscow of failing to comply with the recently agreed agreement.
Moscow: only military facilities shelled
The Kremlin replies that although Odessa was attacked, it was limited to military installations. A Ukrainian warship and US-supplied missiles are said to have been destroyed. The British secret service in turn announced that on Sunday (a day after the attack, mind you) there were no traces of such a ship or missiles.
In Odessa, some 20 million tons of grain are trapped in the silos to be shipped across the Black Sea. Ukraine is one of the world’s largest grain exporters.
