Due to gas cuts – Zelenskyj calls for new sanctions against Russia

Date:

The EU’s seventh package of sanctions against Russia was issued only a few days ago. But now Ukraine’s head of state, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is calling for further punitive measures against the Moscow government. The reason Selenskyj indicated was the imminent cutback in Russia’s gas supply.

“Because it is clear to everyone that this is a deliberate price terror by Russia against Europe,” the 44-year-old said in his daily video speech on Tuesday evening. With the help of Gazprom, Moscow is doing everything it can to make this winter the toughest in history for European countries.

With the announcement that deliveries via Nord Stream 1 would be further reduced, Moscow deliberately provoked the increase in gas prices to the equivalent of more than 2,000 euros for 1,000 cubic meters on the stock exchange. “It is necessary to respond to terror – to respond with sanctions,” Zelenskyy said.

In addition to the sanctions, Zelenskyy also wants to hit Russia with information. Nearly 40,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since the start of the war, but the Russian leadership no longer publishes figures on their own casualties. It is therefore important to pass these figures on to society in Russia.

Resistance to war in ranks of Russian minorities
Most recently, the official Russian authorities announced the number of victims at the end of March. Accordingly, 1,351 Russian soldiers died in the attack on Ukraine, which Moscow calls a “special military operation.” Experts estimate the numbers to be significantly higher. The Ukrainian president hopes that the publication of the figures will arouse discontent among the Russian population about the war.

In fact, there now seems to be a growing resistance among the Russian minorities who are disproportionately bearing the brunt of the war in Ukraine. Asian groups, in particular, are “gun fodder for Putin,” as British intelligence chief Richard Moore recently explained.
