Euskotren’s board of directors approved the application of the 50% discount on the train, tram and funicular services to from 1 Septemberin accordance with the Royal Decree by which the Spanish Government de discounts for public transport in response to the crisis of the war in Ukraine and the rise in prices.
The temporary fare reduction will be applied to the five railway lines (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5), the metro line 3 in Bilbao, the Trams Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteizand the Larreineta Cable Car.
The discount is applied automatically via contactless cards Barik, Bat and Mugialthough the month pass for the Larreineta funicular and the 10 pass for the Kukullaga Elevator.
As explained by the Minister of Territorial Planning, Housing and Transport and President of Euskotren, Inaki ArriolaWith this approval, “an important step is being taken to ensure that citizens receive a 50% discount on their travel during the last four months of the year.”
Arriola stressed that it is a “social and environmental measure that will benefit all citizens, especially the middle and working class, and that it aims at promoting and promoting public transport, discouraging private vehicles and thus reducing in addition, CO2 emissions”.
