Hospital employees infected with Corona must be on duty in the Salzburg State Clinics (SALK) from Monday. Symptom-free employees who have been in contact with patients and have tested positive for Covid will be deployed elsewhere from August – without patient contact.
While in other states, personnel infected with Covid are not allowed to work in hospitals, Salzburg takes a different approach. From Monday, August 1, 2022, the Salzburg State Clinics (SALK) will make a distinction between employees who do and do not have contact with patients. Those in the first group who show no symptoms should come to work with an FFP2 mask.
Staff who normally have patient contact will be deployed elsewhere in the meantime. However, if remote activities from the patients are not possible or if the staff cannot continuously wear an FFP2 mask for medical reasons (e.g. pregnancy), they will be discharged. It is not yet clear what the situation in the nursing homes will be. For the time being, the rules of the federal government apply.
At the moment, the number of Covid-related absences from state clinics is limited. On Wednesday there were 18 infected doctors and 51 infected nurses. In comparison, 578 nurses are currently on vacation. According to SALK spokesman Wolfgang Fürweger, the operating rooms are currently running at 75 percent capacity. Usually there is only an acute failure of operations, for example if a surgeon is unable to work in the short term due to an infection.
