Study reveals: – Every fifth friendship is broken by Corona

Date:

According to a survey, one in five Austrians say they have lost friends because they have different opinions about corona measures or vaccinations. In general, the corona pandemic is experienced as a lonely time: 63 percent missed their friends very much. 37 percent so much so that they ignored the applicable contact restrictions.

The findings of the study are based on a survey by the market research institute Integral. In June, 500 people between the ages of 16 and 75 were surveyed online. As has also been found, things other than Corona can also put a strain on friendships: For example, disagreements over the war in Ukraine led to disagreements among about 22 percent of those surveyed and 14 percent when it came to climate change.

Knowledge circle of more than 100 people
Overall, six in 10 people (62 percent) have a best friend, according to Integral, which celebrates International Friendship Day on July 30. On average, Austrians count six people in their close circle of friends and have close to 20 friendships in total. The entire circle of acquaintances consists on average of more than 100 people.

76 percent of those surveyed measured a good friendship by being there for someone when they needed you. It’s almost as important that your boyfriend or girlfriend is there for you when you need him or her. Also important: that you can talk to each other about everything and that you are honest with each other (74 percent each).
