The US House of Representatives reported on Wednesday that 75,000 Russians have been killed or injured in the war so far. The Kremlin replied on Thursday that this information was incorrect. Counterfeits would be spread.
“These are not statements by the US government, but publications in newspapers. In our time, even the most reputable newspapers do not shy away from spreading all kinds of fakes. Unfortunately, this is a practice that we are seeing more and more,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.
He responded to a report in the New York Times that Russia is suffering heavy losses in the war in Ukraine. “We have been informed that more than 75,000 Russians have been killed or injured, which is huge,” US television network CNN was quoted as saying by Democratic MP Elissa Slotkin.
No official death toll
The US foreign intelligence agency CIA recently had an estimated 15,000 deaths on the Russian side. There is no current information from the official authorities in Russia. Recently, a mass transport of corpses is said to be on its way to the Siberian Republic of Tuva.
So far, tens of thousands of people have lost their lives in the war in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian information, this is more than 5,200 civilians, and Kiev has not given any information about soldiers. Millions more people have been displaced and there are currently more than 6.16 million refugees from Ukraine registered across Europe. Most are located in the neighboring countries of Poland and Moldova.
Battles approaching Bachmut and Soledar
Currently, fighting between the troops of Moscow and Kiev is approaching the cities of Bakhmut and Soledar (Donbass). Attacks are said to have been partially repulsed, the Ukrainian General Staff announced on Thursday. A counter-offensive would come in the south. In recent days, Ukrainian forces are said to have damaged at least three bridges across the Dnipro, on which Russia depends for supplies to its occupied territories. This raises the charge that Kiev is not acting in the interest of its own people.
Russian units reported the arrest of 21 “accomplices” of the Ukrainian army in the south. They also confiscated weapons and ammunition. More than 20 rockets were said to have been fired at infrastructure objects from neighboring Belarus on Thursday evening.
