The third body since May of this year was recently found in Lake Mead east of Las Vegas, the largest reservoir in the US. Forensic medicine has not yet been able to provide information about the sex and cause of death. It wasn’t until May that the body of a man from the 1970s was discovered in the shrinking reservoir.
The shore of the reservoir has been retreating for months due to the ongoing drought. This time, the remains were found on Boulder City Beach. Investigators are currently reviewing old reports of missing persons.
On May 1, krone.at reported, a man in 1970s clothing was discovered in a rusty barrel. Two months later, on July 6, the body of a 22-year-old woman from Boulder City was found in the lake.
Did the mafia dump their victims in the lake?
The nearby casino stronghold of Las Vegas is known as a hotbed of organized crime. Mafia hitmen are thought to drain their victims into deep waters, such as Lake Mead.
Lake Mead was created in the 1930s as part of the Hoover Dam project and provides drinking water to approximately 25 million people. But due to the drought, the water level has fallen to its lowest level since 1937.
