Spectacular accident Saturday evening in the Tyrolean Oberland: A 17-year-old driver lost control of his Audi on the Reschenstrae near Fliess (Landeck district), crashed into a rock wall and then fell eight meters into the Inn. The driver was able to free himself from the car – an alcohol test was positive!
The accident happened around 11:15 p.m., according to police. The 17-year-old Rotterdammer was driving his Audi on the B180 of Fliess in a southerly direction when he overtook another vehicle just before the Pontlatz tunnel.
After the crash, the car sank directly into the Inn
After the maneuver, the young man left the road on the right – he hit a rock wall, broke through a wooden gate and then fell about eight meters over the embankment there at the inn.
“The car went down immediately. The driver was able to free himself from the vehicle, swam under the bridge and then climbed over the embankment onto the street,” the researchers said.
Alcohol test was positive
The 17-year-old suffered injuries in the accident. After receiving first aid, he was admitted to the district hospital in Zams. According to the police, an alcohol test on the test driver’s license was positive. His driver’s license was immediately confiscated.
Audi rescued from river with crane
The car was removed from the water with a crane of the professional fire service of Innsbruck. The Audi was a total loss. During the operation, Reschenstrae was only drivable in one lane. It had to be completely blocked for a short time.
