At least 125 injured in Baghdad in second attack on Iraqi parliament

Supporters of the cleric Muqtada al-Sadr have paralyzed the Iraqi capital in protest against the candidacy of pro-Iranian Shia politician Mohamed Shia al-Sudani, a rival of the cleric, for the post of prime minister.

125 people have already been injured in the clashes in Baghdad between the police and the army of the country against the thousands of sympathizers of the cleric Muqtada al Sadr who this Saturday They have recaptured parliament and paralyze the Iraqi capital in protest at the candidacy of pro-Iranian Shia politician Mohamed Shia al Sudani, the cleric’s rival, for the post of prime minister. The Iraqi parliament has suspended the sessions until further notice.

Most of the capital’s bridges and major highways they are paralyzed while religious supporters have surrounded the headquarters of the Federal Judicial Council and the Supreme Court, while the country’s political leaders, headed by the current Prime Minister, Mostafá al Kazemi, have called for calm.

Ahead of the sit-in in Parliament that the protesters who have re-entered the chamber after doing so for the first time on Wednesday, the institution’s president, Mohamed al Halbusi, has asked the chamber’s security services to refrain from using force against supporters of Al Sadr.
