In the neighboring region of Carinthia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the fire brigades that have been raging for two weeks continue to burn. As the authorities announced, the situation has been defused. The operations focused on forest fires in the Reschen valley and in Pulfero in Udine province. A fire in the karst area near the city of Gorizia (Gorizia, see video) is also being fought.
Due to the rapid intervention of the fire service, the fire was limited to a field of about two hectares in Campoformido near Udine and the flames could not spread to a nearby forest area. The cause of the fire has not yet been clarified.
More than 500 hectares of forest destroyed
Fires have been raging for days in Friuli that have already destroyed more than 500 hectares of forest. Parts of the A4 motorway had to be closed in recent days because of the flames. Regional train traffic partially came to a standstill.
In San Michele del Carso, north of Trieste, not far from the border with Slovenia, 400 people had to spend Friday night in a sports hall after a major fire broke out there. The fire was fanned by the wind and was still out of control on Friday.
