After the brief cooling, which eventually caused rain in almost the entire country due to showers and thunderstorms, the coming days will become warmer again. Next week the next heat wave is upon us before a “real downturn in the weather” awaits over the weekend, according to weather experts.
The start of the new week is again unstable, especially in the east and south. “The shower activity is especially noticeable in the eastern half of Austria, especially in the south there is an increased risk of thunderstorms with local heavy rain.”, So Manfred Spatzierer, chief meteorologist at Austria’s Severe Weather Center. Maximum values are between 24 and 30 degrees.
temperatures are rising
The thermometer will rise noticeably from Wednesday. “Both Wednesday and Thursday are sunny and mostly dry”, the expert predicts, “isolated heat thunderstorms are only possible in the area of the main ridge and in the southern mountains, especially on Thursday”. Wednesday it will be 33 degrees, Thursday it will be even hotter to 35 or locally even 36 degrees.
Peak of the heat wave, chance of severe weather
But Friday will be even hotter. According to the weather forecast, sweating will be up to 37 degrees this day, especially in the east and southeast. In the west, however, it is already starting to brew. From the afternoon you have to take into account some heavy thunderstorms, which will gradually expand. “There is an increased risk of severe weather from hail, heavy rain and gusty winds,” Spatzierer said. Only in the southeast and the far east it will probably remain dry.
Temperature drop of more than ten degrees possible
A cold front then hit the country just in time for the weekend, putting an end to the blistering heat. “From the current perspective, the temperature drop from the previous day could even be more than ten degrees, especially north of the Alps,” explains the meteorologist. However, given the great heat of the previous day, that sounds worse than it is: At a maximum value of up to 27 degrees, there is pleasant warmth. Severe thunderstorms could break out on Saturday, especially in the south.
On Sunday only showers and thunderstorms are expected in the mountains. A maximum of 26 degrees is reached.
