The government of Kosovo has decided to postpone for a month, until September 1, the ban on Serbian documents and number plates on its territory, after the new tensions that arose this Sunday at two border points a few hours before the planned start of the ban on documents.

Kosovo announced in June that it would no longer accept Serbian identity documents and registration plates on its territory from August. Under the new measures, people entering Kosovo with a Serbian identity card will be given a temporary Kosovar document that is valid for 90 days.

Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in 2008, although Belgrade has not recognized it. Kosovo is supported by the United States and most of the European Union, with the exception of five countries, including Spain. Russia, China, India or Brazil, among others, do not recognize Kosovo’s independence either.

For its part, the NATO Force for Kosovo (KFOR) has announced that: “is ready to intervene” in case the stability of the country is endangered.
