Bade-Drama in Geboltskirchen, Upper Austria: A colleague of a Ukrainian (35) raised the alarm when the man suddenly disappeared. Divers found body.
His desire to cool off cost a Ukrainian his life at the end of Sunday afternoon. He was swimming with a Slovakian colleague (42, both working as truck drivers in Haag am Hausruck) at the Leithen swimming pond in Geboltskirchen. At about 4:45 p.m., the two men swam from a jetty to a bathing platform. The Slovak swam about five meters in front of the Ukrainian. After about 100 meters, the Slovak could suddenly no longer see his colleague at work.
Not to be saved
The 42-year-old immediately started the rescue chain. A large contingent of emergency services – including divers from the fire service and water rescue service – were alerted at the swimming lake, but the Ukrainian could not be rescued. The father of two – the family lives at home – was rescued at 6:20 p.m. from a depth of about four meters.
