The United States (US) announced last Sunday that it killed the leader of Al Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiricwho took charge of Al Qaeda after the assassination of Osama bin Laden in 2011. Al Zawahir was assassinated in an operation carried out by a drone in Kabul (Afghanistan).
In a televised broadcast from the balcony of the Blue Room of the White House late Monday, the president of the United States said, Joe Bidenhas said that with the death of Al Zawahiri “justice has been done” and that the world no longer needs to fear this “ruthless killer”.
Al Zawahiri was killed Sunday morning at a residence in Kabul, specifically at 06:18 local time (01:48 GMT), when he was on the balcony of the residence where he was staying, and a drone shot him down twice. Hellfire missiles.
According to the White House only the leader of Al Qaeda was killed in the operationand no one else was injured, not even members of his family staying with him, something Biden himself had insisted on several times and set as one of the conditions for going ahead with the attack.
Biden’s consent was granted a few days before the attack, on Monday, July 25, after several weeks of meetings with his military and intelligence leadership.
