Looting gangs of migrants and people smugglers are making the border area between Greece and North Macedonia increasingly unsafe. A fatal incident has now occurred. A young Pakistani man who fled to Central Europe and was attacked has been beaten to death. Greek police also reported that a pregnant woman from Lebanon lost her child in another attack.
The alleged perpetrators have been arrested for manslaughter and assault on the pregnant Lebanese woman. Looting mobs from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan have recently threatened and ambushed refugees moving along the railway to North Macedonia, the semi-official Greek news agency ANA reported. In part, it is the smugglers themselves who take the last bit of money from the people.
Human traffickers find holes in the border fence
The victims hope for routes of Greece to North Macedonia and on to Central Europe. Crossing into the neighboring country is not easy, large parts of the border are secured with huge fences. Yet smugglers still manage to cross the border in unsecured places.
