With eight strong stitches, a then only 17-year-old rider was seriously injured. Only her instinct to run could save her. “He is mentally ill,” explains the lawyer for the temporary worker at the riding school. The prosecutor’s office demanded that he be admitted to an institution for mentally disturbed offenders.
For the 38-year-old, it was a day in the stable like any other. That’s how he started: riding out, taking care of the horse, putting away the bridle. What happened then was “sudden and completely unexpected,” says the prosecutor at the regional court in Wiener Neustadt. The groom attacked the woman. He pressed her against the wall in the tack room, covered her mouth and punched her. When the then only 17-year-old pulled a knife, “she came face to face with death,” according to the prosecutor.
The victim was able to flee in a car
Even as the victim lay on the floor bleeding and weak, he continued to stab her “completely emotionless.” The woman suffered eight serious stab and cut wounds to her neck and chest. “I had already given up hope,” the rider explained in the courtroom. With her last strength, she dragged herself to her car and escaped. Rapid first aid and emergency surgery saved her life. Today, however, the 38-year-old still suffers from the effects of the attack.
Tat due to psychiatric diagnosis
The motive is completely unclear to both the public prosecutor and the representative of the private parties involved: “The suspect did not even know the victim.” the influence of his personality development disorder. The expert diagnosed paranoid and narcissistic tendencies. The Public Prosecution Service therefore requested admission to an institution for mentally ill offenders.
Another version in court
While the person concerned had spoken about a third during his first interrogation, he now presented a different version in court: the woman had started beating him. He just wanted to hold her: “I was afraid she would do something bad to me. That she would kill me.”
He claims he drew the knife to intimidate her – and she accidentally fell into it. Then when she fell to the ground, the rider kicked him and he fell too – accidentally cutting her neck. “You mean the injuries were caused by you falling and coming with the knife?” asks the examining magistrate. The person concerned assures: “It was not all intentional, it was an accident!”
The jury sentenced him to 13 years in prison and to a psychiatric facility for criminals. It is not final because neither the prosecution nor the defense have made a statement. The suspect was also found guilty of burglary on Tuesday.
