‘Potential for violence’ – Al Qaeda boss killed: US warns of attacks

Date:

Following the assassination of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri by a US drone, the US State Department has called on Americans around the world to be more vigilant against attacks. “After al-Zawahiri’s death, supporters of al-Qaeda or affiliated terrorist organizations may attempt to attack U.S. facilities, personnel or civilians,” the ministry said in a warning released Tuesday.

We remain concerned about the continued threat of terrorist attacks, demonstrations and other violent acts against American citizens and interests abroad. After the death of the leader of the terrorist network al-Qaeda, there is “increased potential for anti-American violence”.

Targeted Drone Attack
The United States said it killed al-Zawahiri last weekend with a targeted drone strike in the Afghan capital, Kabul. The 71-year-old succeeded Osama bin Laden, the head of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in the United States. After bin Laden was assassinated by a US special forces unit in Pakistan in 2011, al-Zawahiri rose to the top of the terrorist group.

New leader of the terrorist organization
And even now, the new leader is ready: According to terror experts, the Egyptian Saif al-Adel could become the new al-Qaeda boss. Like Al-Zawahiri, he is one of the founding members of the terrorist organization.
