Off the coast of Spain, a 62-year-old Frenchman survived 16 hours in a bubble under his capsized sailboat in stormy seas after managing to call an emergency operator. As has now become known, he was rescued by the Spanish coastguard on Tuesday and miraculously survived his adventure completely unharmed.
The 62-year-old Frenchman made an emergency call on Monday about 20 kilometers from the Sisargas Islands near the region of Galicia. The Spanish coast guard found the twelve-meter sailboat adrift in the keel when night fell. The 62-year-old made himself known to rescuers by knocking. However, due to rough seas and poor visibility, he had to wait until Tuesday morning to be rescued.
However, the Coast Guard attached several buoyancy balloons (pictured above) to the sailboat, which threatened to sink in the icy water. Finally, Tuesday, as the weather improved, two divers swam under the boat to free the trapped sailor. He was towed aboard the Coast Guard helicopter.
The Frenchman was taken to a hospital, but was released a short time later after a medical check-up. Miraculously, he survived the adventure completely unscathed.
