The traffic light for Corona is yellow for all of Austria. According to the decision of the Corona Commission on Thursday afternoon, there is a medium risk for all of Austria and the six states of Carinthia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Tyrol. The risk is high in Vienna and Burgenland, which is why they are orange, Vorarlberg was the only federal state to switch to yellow-green. So there is little risk in the westernmost state.
As of August 3, the load on intensive care units was a Covid-specific occupancy rate of 3.8 percent, based on all reported adult intensive care beds in Austria. Beds in normal wards across Austria were 3.7 percent Covid-specific. The Commission referred to the forecasting consortium, which expected the coating in normal wards to decrease to 2.6 percent over the next two weeks and to 3.1 percent in intensive care units.
‘Vaccination still important’
The Corona Commission emphasized the “continuing importance of the corona vaccination to fight the pandemic and protect hospitals from overload, especially against the background of the declining immune protection in the population against serious cures”. Covid-19 drugs are equally important to protect against serious disease progression, and in this regard, the committee has recommended measures to increase the use of such drugs.
