Trees fallen – floods, hail and power cuts in Carinthia

Date:

Severe thunderstorms are also currently sweeping large parts of Carinthia – the local fire brigade has had to relocate due to torn trees and flooded basements. Several roads are closed. Here you can see where the risk of thunderstorms and hail remains high.

Several trees have already been uprooted by the storm and the Carinthian fire brigade is busy cleaning up. In Bad Kleinkirchheim, several cellars are flooded and other small-scale flooding as well. The water rescue service also had to set out on Lake Millstätter See on Friday afternoon: boats and stand-up paddlers that were endangered by the storm were brought to safety.

These roads are closed

  • The Packer Straße B70 is currently closed as fallen trees must first be removed.
  • The B100 Drautal between Paternion and Feistritz in the Drautal is also closed due to flooding.
  • The Mölltal Straße B106 is not closed, but a debris flow is causing traffic jams. Only one lane is passable between Stall and Tresdorf.

Power outage due to storm
Due to the storm, many people in Carinthia are without electricity on Friday evening: according to the Carinthia network, about 1,600 households currently have no electricity. Upper Carinthia between Feldkirchen and the Millstätter See is particularly hard hit.

Thunderstorms across Carinthia
The lower Drau valley and the Gurk and Lavant valleys are currently the most affected by the storms: these regions have the most severe thunderstorms with intense gusts of wind, heavy rain and sometimes even hail. The weather changed so quickly that trees were uprooted.

The chance of thunderstorms will not decrease in the coming hours, on the contrary: according to meteorologists, the bad weather will spread to several parts of Carinthia. It also pours in the Klagenfurt basin and in Villach.
