The brutal felling of hundreds of trees in the Vienna Woods could soon have serious consequences. Anyway, outraged residents and the opposition in Pressbaum (Lower Austria) are already taking action against the mayor and the private clinic of Vienna. Ads are already being considered!
The ‘Krone’ report on the large-scale clearing in Pressbaum in the Vienna Woods caused a stir. As reported, the residents of Sanatoriumstraße and the residents of the local nursing home are finally calling for an ultimate construction stop on the site.
“Too often spoken untruth”
Although representatives of the Viennese private clinic would have assured Mayor Josef Schmidl-Haberleitner (ÖVP) that there were no further plans for several apartment buildings in the park area, the critics lacked faith: “The untruth has been said too many times here. There are finally actions rather than words,” 81-year-old protest leader Helga Bayer told the “Krone”.
Meanwhile, the opposition in the city council is already shooting at the hesitant mayor and the owners: “I think our mayor is tired of his job. He could have tried much harder. And the private clinic just wants to make money. They shouldn’t be interested in anything else,” SPÖ councilor Alfred Gruber said at the local inspection with Wolfgang Kalchhauser of the citizen list “Wir!”.
“Probable estimate”
As for the clearing, there are likely to be consequences. An inspection by the district of St. Pölten found no (!) administrative violation of the forest or nature protection law. Critics suspect the prevailing degree of destruction is “a misjudgment”. Therefore, more ads could follow.
