Success for DSN officials – terror fighters (36) arrested in Upper Austria

Date:

Success for state security: here and in Spain two jihadists were arrested who fled to Austria via the Balkan route. You were in the Syrian war before.

The two jihadists from Morocco joined al-Qaeda-related groups in Syria in 2014. For years they gained military experience in the civil war – and fled to Turkey after the defeat.

Admission in Upper Austria
Two months ago, the “ticking time bombs” managed to reach Austria via the infamous Balkan route via Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary. But the State Security and Intelligence Directorate (DSN) had the two terrorist fighters on its radar through collaboration with the US Federal Police FBI, Europol and Interpol, among others. When the elder 36-year-old holy warrior wanted to continue his journey to Germany by train, the handcuffs clicked in the Upper Austrian border region.

The younger “Foreign Fighter” (29) has been arrested at a house for migrants in the Spanish city of Mataró in the province of Barcelona. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP): “In the fight against international terrorist networks, close cooperation with our partners is essential. As the renewed successful operation shows, the Directorate for State Security and Intelligence is in the best possible position.”
