The war in Ukraine presents Moscow with material and human resource challenges. But according to Russian state television, President Vladimir Putin received help from another despot: the ruler of North Korea is said to have offered the Kremlin 100,000 “voluntary” soldiers.
After months of invasion wars, Putin’s army is badly hit. The Kremlin initially thought it could defeat Ukraine in a short time – but the fierce resistance of the attacked defenders was apparently not to be expected. More than 42,000 Russian soldiers have been killed, 223 fighter jets shot down and 1,805 tanks destroyed, according to information from Kiev.
Russian defense expert confirms bid
North Korea would have offered its help. Specifically, it concerns about 100,000 soldiers that the dictator Kim Jong Un could make available, Russian television channel Channel One reported. This information could not be independently verified, but Russian defense expert Igor Korotchenko also spoke of “100,000 North Korean volunteers ready to participate in the conflict”.

The expert welcomed the offer of aid: “If North Korea expresses a desire to fulfill its international duty to fight Ukrainian fascism, we must allow it,” Korotchenko said. According to British intelligence, Russia could urgently use such aid. “I think they will be out of air soon,” the agency chief said recently. In his opinion, Moscow is finding it increasingly difficult to get personnel and equipment for its invasion war.
