A 46-year-old man threatened a 27-year-old woman with a knife in a Vienna-Leopoldstadt dog zone on Saturday morning and kicked one of her three dogs.
Police spokeswoman Irina Steirer said the 27-year-old took her animals to the Venice Au dog zone shortly before 11 a.m. and released the dogs because no one else was there. A short time later, the 46-year-old sat down on a bench a few feet away in the zone. He had no dog with him.

When one of the woman’s animals sniffed nearby, the Croatian citizen began rummaging in his backpack. The Border Collie felt threatened and growled or barked. His owner noticed that the man had taken a knife from his backpack. A war of words ensued, the 46-year-old came closer and closer to the woman. The dog wanted to defend her and the 46-year-old kicked him.
Police officers were alerted by shouting loudly what was going on. They intervened before those involved were injured and arrested the 46-year-old. It is not clear what his motive was.
