The tourist hotspot in the center of Vienna is causing nuisance to residents: too little is being done in the Alrbertina to prevent pollution from pigeons.
The Albertina is one of the tourist attractions of the federal capital. But something spoils the postcard idyll. The pollution left by the pigeons. Because especially the gray birds like to romp on the forecourt of the Albertina.
“That doesn’t make for a nice picture”
So they often leave their excrement on the venerable walls. “It cannot be that you cannot ensure cleanliness in this place. That does not produce a pretty picture,” says resident Helene von Damm. The now 83-year-old was once an assistant to US President Ronald Reagan and ambassador.
She also noticed that the monuments maintained by the city of Vienna are much cleaner. “So it should be possible to make it at the Albertina,” says von Damm.
The building falls under the responsibility of the Burghauptmannschaft. When asked about the problem by “Krone”, it was said that options were being sought to remove the dirt as effectively and sustainably as possible.
