Danger of recurrence? – Belgorod case: war returns to the polluter

Date:

Is a Russian border area under Ukrainian control? And who is behind the attack? The crown clears.

Anti-Russian forces have once again succeeded in bringing the war to Russia. Fighting has broken out in the Belgorod border area and armored units are said to have captured parts of the area. It is probably the Russian Volunteer Corps or the “Freedom of Russia” Legion, ie Russian soldiers fighting on the side of Ukraine.

The governor of the region called for an evacuation. The situation is still unclear, Russia claimed yesterday to have pushed back the attackers. Deny this (see tweet below).

What does that mean?
Experts do not believe that the aim was to actually gain territory. Rather, Russia should be forced to withdraw troops from eastern Ukraine to protect its borders. “There will now be more such attacks,” says Russia expert Gerhard Mangott firmly.

There are also similarities with classic reconnaissance operations. A small unit goes behind enemy lines, usually to gather material and intelligence. Officially, Kiev wanted nothing to do with these attacks. However, depending on the equipment and the course of the operation, the units must have good intelligence.

The Kremlin sees evidence of the need for war
For the Kremlin, the attack proves the need to continue the war in Ukraine. “This confirms once again that Ukrainian fighters are continuing their activities against our country,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov. The fighting in Belgorod will require efforts from Russia, Kremlin spokesman Peskov said.

“These efforts will continue, as will the military special operation to prevent such break-ins in the future.” The attack caused “deep concern”. Nine were reported injured.
