Facts and background – Hans-Jörg Jenewein: 7 questions about the political tragedy

Date:

It’s the topic in the FPÖ party family. What is known about the rescue operation at Hans-Jörg Jenewein.

What happened on Sunday night?
Former FPÖ MP Hans-Jörg Jenewein was found unconscious at home by his wife after an overdose of pills. The emergency doctor arrived at 1:42 a.m. and the rescue team drove to the Ottakring clinic at 3:00 a.m.

What is the motive for the apparent act of desperation?
There is a serious case of illness in the family, Jenewein himself was left with nothing after leaving the party and taking leave. Added to this was the pressure of criminal investigation and the disappointment that FPÖ leader Herbert Kickl described him as “one of many” and dropped him.

How is the health of Hans-Jörg Jenewein?
He is back in “home care” and also receives psychological care.

Was there a suicide note?
The first rumors were not confirmed. The ex-Nationalrat is said to have confided in his state of emergency shortly in advance and also expressed his disappointment with ex-party friends.

Why is Hans-Jörg Jenewein so important to the FPÖ leader?
He was in the inner circle around Kickl. His seized electronic devices are considered “toxic” to the blues as Thomas Schmid’s cell phone to the turquoises.

Are the police investigating?
Not about this political tragedy, but about the information network of a suspected corrupt ex-BVT agent.

Why is the media reporting about this?
Because the dramatic backgrounds are highly political and even reveal internal party intrigue with advertisements.

Editor’s Note: “The media are obliged (…) to report on suicides only in absolute exceptional cases”, Ralf Wiegand recently wrote from the famous “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. And made it clear: “The Kellermayr case is like that.” The Austrian press council demands “great restraint” in reporting suicides and suicide attempts. It must be considered “whether there is an overriding public interest,” it says. As in the case of Dr. Kellermayr, you cannot remain silent about him. Just as little as the Jenewein case. This has a tragic background, but above all a very political one. That is why it must be reported.
