Six dead – US: Charged with murder of motorist after accident

After a serious car accident near Los Angeles that killed six, California prosecutors have filed a murder charge. A 37-year-old woman who caused the accident on Aug. 4 is on trial for murder and manslaughter, the authority said Monday (local time). So many lives were destroyed “pointlessly,” prosecutor George Gascón said in a statement.

The woman reportedly drove at high speed through a red light intersection in the town of Windsor Hills, taking several vehicles. Some cars caught fire. A heavily pregnant woman, her one-year-old son, her fiancé and two other women died. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Find the cause of the accident
The murder charge includes the unborn child. To be convicted of second-degree murder, evidence of reckless and malicious behavior and disregard for human life must be provided. Driving under the influence of alcohol or previous traffic violations may result in a charge.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation. Initially, there was no evidence of drug or alcohol use. According to the Los Angeles Times, the woman was previously involved in serious car accidents.
