Lousy scam in Tyrol – “workers” stole gold from 91-year-old’s apartment

Date:

A 91-year-old senior woman in Innsbruck fell victim to an unscrupulous con man: Under the pretext of a waterworks employee, the perpetrator gained access to her apartment and stole money and valuable gold jewelry. The damage: more than 10,000 euros!

The 91-year-old from Innsbruck already rang the bell on Monday morning. When the elderly woman opened the door, there was a man standing in front of her claiming to be a water company employee measuring her apartment due to upcoming mold remediation measures.

Theft wasn’t noticed until the next day
During his stay of about 20 minutes, the man eventually stole a four-digit amount of cash and gold jewelry worth more than $10,000, the investigators said. The elderly woman only noticed the theft the next day and immediately reported the theft to the police.

Police hope for clues
The perpetrator was an elderly man. He is about 1.90 meters tall, has a strong build and short hair. He spoke broken German and wore work clothes (dark trousers and a red, sleeveless vest).
