A trip to the Frödisch Gorge in Vorarlberg ended Thursday for a 48-year-old. The man had jumped 15 meters into a Wilbach near the “Oven” waterfall, although he had underestimated the low water level.
On Thursday, after a walk with his partner, the man decided to go swimming in the Frödisch River. According to police information, in the area of the “Öfen” waterfall (municipality of Zwischenwasser), the 48-year-old jumped from a height of more than 15 meters from the cliff edge of the waterfall in the Gumpen below – a whirlpool-like pool pot formed by the water.
The impact in the shallower part of the stream bed must have rammed his knee into his chest. The man remained unconscious in the water for a short time and was rescued from the water by his partner.
After making an emergency call, the 48-year-old received first aid from the Rankweil mountain rescue service and the crew of the Christophorus 8 emergency helicopter and was flown to the state hospital in Feldkirch with suspected serious injuries.
