A seemingly harmless kitchen fire in Kremsmünster (Upper Austria) had fatal consequences on Friday night. The armed forces have found a body.
It was shortly before midnight when the Kremsmünster fire brigade was called. Smoke had been billowing from a junction box in an apartment building. But what initially seemed like a harmless fire developed into a drama.
Huge smoke
When searching for the cause of the smoke, the emergency services found the body of a man (65) a little later. Due to the unclear situation, all residents of the house were awakened and removed from the house. No one could be reached in only one apartment. The door of the apartment could be opened with a second key, which the 76-year-old brother of the apartment owner had. The police immediately encountered a huge development of smoke that spread through the stairwell.
body discovered
There may have been a fire in the kitchen of his apartment, but the fire had already gone out on its own. The homeowner lay lifeless in the kitchen. All help came too late for him and the emergency doctor present pronounced him dead.
14 injured
Four firefighters, ten residents and the two police officers likely suffered smoke inhalation from the smoke and had to be taken to surrounding hospitals.
