An aggressive fox caused a stir in the American capital Washington on Tuesday. Ironically, US broadcaster Fox News reported that the fox had “attacked or bitten” several people in the US Capitol, including Congresswoman Ami Bera. Officials from the animal welfare organization eventually caught the four-legged culprit, who had roamed the property for days and had become a popular photo opportunity.
Sightings of the fox have been a popular motif on the internet profiles of politicians and journalists in the capital in recent days.
Although foxes are known to be shy, the animal has been seen once eating a squirrel and another time basking in the Senate Gardens.
Even at party leaders’ press conferences, the animal was a topic. Unfortunately, however, it was also quite aggressive and bit several people.
“I didn’t see him and all of a sudden I felt something hit my leg,” Bera told Punchbowl News. The 57-year-old Democrat from California was not injured, but said he was given the rabies vaccination “as a precaution.” He said he was prepared for attack if he went to conservative Fox News TV, but he did not “expect” an attack by a real fox in the House of Parliament.
To prove the threat was over, the Animal Welfare Agency released a photo of the alleged culprit in a cage.
This belongs to the genus of red foxes, which also live in cities, but usually avoid humans. Their favorite foods are insects, birds and rabbits – MPs don’t really belong on their menu.
