New Rocket Attacks – Call in Eastern Ukraine: “Don’t take to the streets!”

Date:

The Ukrainian army has reported new heavy Russian missile strikes in the east of the country. The city and the region of Kharkiv were shelled en masse, Ukrainian authorities said on Saturday. Three people, including a 13-year-old boy, were injured in the Kharkov region and were taken to hospital. In the Zaporizhzhya region, authorities warned people not to take to the streets because Russian troops would fire in the direction of the nuclear power plant. Russia has occupied Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.

Moscow, in turn, accuses Ukrainian troops of shelling the power plant. Internationally, there is great concern about a possible nuclear incident. Despite the fighting in the region, experts from the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have been trying to gain access to the nuclear power plant for weeks.

Focus on the Donetsk region
In its situation report, the Ministry of Defense in Moscow confirmed the rocket and artillery fire in the regions of Kharkiv and Kherson, among others. The focus was therefore still on the Donetsk region, which will be wrested completely from Ukrainian control in the course of the Russian war of aggression as Moscow’s next target.

‘Occupiers try to break through defense lines’
The Donetsk suburb of Pisky in the northwest of the city has now been taken, the Russians said. There was initially no confirmation from the Ukrainian side. The Ukrainian army contradicted the Russian statements. The Ukrainian General Staff announced heavy fighting on the outskirts of the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk. “The occupiers are trying to break through the defense lines of our troops towards Oleksandropol, Krasnohorivka, Avdiyvka, Mariinka and Pisky,” it reads.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 and currently occupies about a fifth of the neighboring country, including the Crimean peninsula annexed in 2014, including the Luhansk and Kherson regions and large parts of the Zaporizhzhya region. Ukraine urgently demands heavy weapons from the West to stop the Russian advance and recapture territories.
