Bernadette Lang from Salzburg will tie the knot for life on Monday. She will pray daily and enter into partnership with Jesus. Abstinence has the highest priority.
The wedding dress was quickly bought. Bernadette Lang chose her dress from dresses with three friends. “It went fast because I knew what I wanted,” says the 31-year-old. The young woman will be married on Monday in the Salzburg Cathedral. Unlike usual, not her future husband, but God.
The theologian decided to consecrate the “Eternal Virgin” – the “Krone” reported. The ordination is “quasi a marriage with Jesus”, says Lang. She commits herself to live without sex, to pray daily – for a lifetime.
More than 500 guests are invited to the wedding
Monday will be special. Lang looks forward to the fourth-century initiation rite performed by Auxiliary Bishop Hansjörg Hofer. The young woman invited more than 500 people to the cathedral. Agape and party afterwards will be on a smaller scale.
Relationships with men, most recently attempting with a young man who had moved to Salzburg especially for her, never felt right for Lang. She chose Jesus and the “quasi-marriage with God”.
Even if the groom is not physically present on Monday, the bride is happy: “My counterpart is not visible, but I am convinced that he is there,” says the Upper Austrian who lives in Salzburg.
