From September 2 to 3, Europe’s largest air show will take place in Zeltweg in Styria. But at AIRPOWER22 it’s not just military equipment in the air – the flying acrobats of the Flying Bulls also show what they can do. Includes a world premiere.
The last AIRPOWER was three years ago, when part of the program fell victim to bad weather. Despite the pouring rain, hundreds of thousands of spectators managed to find their way to Zeltweg – and probably will do so again: some 300,000 spectators are expected this year to attend the spectacular demonstrations in Styria, jointly organized by the Austrian armed forces, the State Styria and Red Bull at Hinterstoisser Air Base.
Bad weather 2019
The Flying Bulls still have a point to settle: they had to forgo part of their demonstration in 2019 – and want to offer even more this year. They want to celebrate aerobatic world premiere with a spectacular “Red Bull Aerobatic Triple”. For the first time, the Flying Bulls planes and helicopters, the wingsuits of the Red Bull Skydive Team and the paratroopers of HSV Salzburg meet in a precisely choreographed interaction.
Planes, helicopters, paratroopers
For months, the protagonists are Dario Costa (in his Edge 540 aerobatic plane), Philipp Haidbauer (in an old Stearman), Siegfried “Blacky” Schwarz (in a former AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter) and Mirko Flaim (in his BO-105) together. with their wingsuit and skydiving colleagues in the skies above Zeltweg.
The two HSV athletes Paul Steiner and Stefan Müller are like paratroopers with the Austrian flag in the sky. Marco Waltenspiel, Marco Fürst, Felix Seifert and Max Mannow come into action in wingsuits and as base jumpers.
Star of the “Tunnel Pass” included
“We want to amaze, entertain and inspire people. The Red Bull Aerobatic Triple is the result of many hours of planning and hard training. We hope you can feel that and that our enthusiasm is passed on to the spectators in Zeltweg,” says Dario Costa, whose dedication to AIRPOWER22 almost exactly one year after the legendary “Tunnel Pass” – Costa crossed two tunnels with his Edge in the Near Istanbul – coming.

“Museum That Can Fly”
The “Flying Bulls” are probably the most spectacular private fleet of aircraft in the world. 25 different types of aircraft and helicopters are flown from Hangar-8 in Salzburg. Behind it is a huge shipyard where students have been trained for years. “We are also an aircraft museum. But one that can fly”, laughs chief pilot Raimund Riedmann.
Come in public if possible
Admission to the event on September 2 and 3 in Zeltweg is free. Visitors who want to know more about how to reach AIRPOWER22 can find all the information on the event website. It is strongly recommended to use public transport. For example, travel from the train stations in Vienna, Salzburg, Linz and Villach is possible from a ticket price of 10 euros.
