“There is no good job if there is no safe job”

At the opening of the Fifth International Congress on Occupational Safety and Health, which kicked off today in Bilbao, the Basque Government’s Minister of Labor and Employment stated that “the full health of workers is a right and a competitive opportunity”.

More than 100 international professionals in the field of occupational hazard prevention and industrial safety analyze the most important health challenges in the V International Congress on Safety and Health which started today under the motto “Face challenges, add efforts”. In the inaugural act, the vicelehendakari and minister of labor and employment, Idoia Mendiahas ensured that “there is no quality work if there is no safe work” and has called for the cooperation and participation of all actors involved in occupational health and safety who share that “the full health of workers is a right and a competitive opportunity it.”

Organized by Osalan to mark the 30th anniversary of its founding, the event today and tomorrow will seek to integrate agents’ participation in occupational health and safety and alliances. In this sense, Mendia has noted that in terms of occupational health, “there is no overexertion here and participation and collaboration is needed.” In the first place, he continued, “from employers, in terms of their specific responsibility for the safety and health of workers”, but also “from social agents and prevention representatives, labor inspection and the labor authority and all those who share work is not secure and that full health of workers is a right and a competitive opportunity”.

According to him, “the key to the future in the labor market is the right to health and the competitiveness of companies” so that “investment in people and their well-being, in the broadest sense of the word, is an attraction to get involved in productivity” .

The vicelehendakari has expressed her appreciation for the work Osalan has done in the 30 years of its existence and has pointed to the efforts shared with social and economic actors in these three decades, while at the same time claiming its nature as a public service, “it has made it possible to jump from risk management to well-being management as a guide for the future”.
