Israeli attack – UN soldiers are injured again in Lebanon

Date:

Soldiers of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were injured on Thursday in an Israeli army attack on the outskirts of the southern Lebanese city of Sidon.

“The enemy air force attacked a car in Sidon, near the army checkpoint,” Lebanese news agency NNA reported. The soldiers were injured and are being treated on site. According to the Ministry of Defense, these are not Austrian peacekeepers.

A correspondent from the AFP news agency saw four wounded UN peacekeepers. UNIFIL peacekeepers’ vehicles were in the “same row” as the attacked car during the attack, NNA reported.

Austrian soldiers were injured at the end of October
At the end of October, eight federal army soldiers were slightly injured by rocket fire in the UNIFIL Naqoura camp in Lebanon. According to UNIFIL, the rocket was “probably” fired by the Lebanese Hezbollah militia “or an affiliated group.”

The federal government has strongly condemned the incident. The UNIFIL peacekeeping force has been stationed in Lebanon since 1978 and consists of approximately 10,000 soldiers and civilians. The European countries most involved include Italy with more than 1,000 soldiers, Spain with around 680 and France with 670. Austria is involved in the mission with around 160 soldiers.
