The experts of the Covid forecast consortium expect an end to the summer drop in infections in Austria with immediate effect. This is currently indicated by the available parameters of the reported number of cases and plaque development in hospitals, it said Wednesday. The associated increases in hospital occupancy are expected to be moderate.
“We assume that an increase in the incidence of infections can be expected in the coming weeks due to the coincidence of seasonal effects with reduced immune protection,” explained the experts from Vienna University of Technology, MedUni Vienna and Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG). ) in their weekly update.
Hospital occupancy is increasing
Exact figures on the incidence for the next seven days have not been predicted for a few weeks due to the less testing and the unclear number of new infections. However, the expected hospital population with infected people for the next two weeks is still being calculated.
This should remain virtually unchanged by comparison, with slight upward or downward trends being forecast in the individual federal states, according to the consortium. By September 28, 586 to 1161 beds are expected to be occupied in normal wards in Austria, with an average of 825 beds. On Tuesday, 879 infected people were in hospital.
