“Owner” in the picture – Court of Auditors now takes over Wien Energie

Date:

The Federal Court of Auditors announced an audit of Wien Energie on Tuesday afternoon. “In particular, the energy trading business and the owner’s role should be explored,” it said. Wien Energie GmbH is a 100 percent subsidiary of Wiener Stadtwerke and is therefore indirectly owned by the City of Vienna.

As the Court’s spokesman Christian Neuwirth announced via Twitter, “the financial situation, financial requirements and transparency in the light of security of supply” would be the central questions to be clarified. It should also be interesting to look at comparable companies, because the RH also wants to see “how things are with other energy suppliers”.

As reported in detail, Wien Energie was recently in dire need after a “begging letter” from the city of Vienna became public, in which City Councilor for Finance Peter Hanke (SPÖ) demanded guarantees of at least six billion euros from the Ministry of Finance and also some sort of “Ultimatum”, which he later put into perspective himself.

Critics are already talking about an imbalance, the full extent of which will probably only become apparent in the coming days and weeks. The third president of the National Council, Norbert Hofer, spoke of a “crisis of epic proportions”.
