Package costs 4 billion euros – Higher pensions: key points of the cabinet

Date:

The ÖVP and the Greens have agreed on the adjustment of pensions for 2023. Depending on the income level, pensions will be increased by 5.8 to 10.2 percent. The federal government is spending a total of four billion euros on this. Both sides defended the measures on Tuesday.

Minister of Social Affairs Johannes Rauch (Greens) praised the total package and spoke of a “lived social policy”. August Wöginger took the same line. “It is a good and balanced package. The retirees can count on the government,” emphasized the ÖVP club president.

Plus of 10.2 percent for minimum retirees
For the minimum pensioners there is an increase of 10.2 percent (income up to 1,030 euros gross per month). Retirees with an income of up to 2,000 euros can count on an increase of 8.2 percent. The full statutory adjustment of 5.8 percent applies to pensions from 2360 to 5670 euros. For pensions above that, a fixed amount of 329 euros per month applies. “The minimum pensions will be increased significantly,” says Wöginger.
