The CEOE warns it has “lost confidence” in the government to negotiate pensions

Date:

He demands an explanation from Escrivá about the “excessive” and surprising increase in premiums for high wages and while he will continue to negotiate, he recommends taking the Toledo Pact

The drums of war between businessmen and the government are louder than ever in this last part of the legislature. Gone are those two years of pandemic in which there was even talk of an ‘idyl’ between the two, now that major pacts have been made in social dialogue on issues as important as the ERTE, the minimum wage or labor reform and that of pensions.

The rope is so taut that it is on the point of breaking since employers warn they have lost confidence in this executive, sources close to the newspaper said. The surprising and unannounced increase of 8.6% in maximum contributions, right when this issue was being discussed at the table of social dialogue, has caused great anger at the CEOE, who considered this increase “excessive” and exploded against the way of actions of the Minister of Social Security, José Luis Escrivá.

In any case, it is the policy of the organization led by Antonio Garamendi to never leave the negotiating table and they will continue to do so. “We have never stood up and are always open to dialogue,” assured CEOE Vice President Íñigo Fernández de Mesa in statements to the media. However, Fernández de Mesa acknowledged that “it gives us a lack of confidence that the government is taking many measures regarding social dialogue without consultation.” And that is why he emphasized: “We are always ready to negotiate, but there must always be trust between both sides.” “It’s important,” he emphasized.

In the same vein, the president of ATA and vice-president of the businessmen, Lorenzo Amor, declared himself, who at all times denied that they had left the table, partly because there was no appeal from social security. Amor also spoke that “confidence has been lost” and demanded clarification from Escrivá. “We need an explanation at the table. It cannot be that one thing is talked about here and then something else is done,” he told this newspaper.

The president of the main self-employed association went one step further and was in favor of this second phase of the pension reform, in which the extension of the period for calculating the pension and the lifting of the maximum bases are included in the Toledo Pact.
