Succession arranged – Red Bull shuffles the cards again: management team at the helm

Date:

Two weeks after the death of founder Dietrich Mateschitz, Red Bull has repositioned itself. As Mateschitz’ son Mark announced in a broadcast on Friday morning, the global company in Fuschl am See will be led by a management team in the future. Red Bull Leipzig Managing Director Oliver Mintzlaff is responsible for the sports agenda, while Franz Watzlawick and Alexander Kirchmayr are responsible for the other areas. Together they form a three-member Board of Directors.

He briefed staff on the new group structure on Friday, Mark Mateschitz said. He himself has resigned from his position as “Head of Organics”.

“It was a difficult decision for me”
“The decision was difficult for me because Organics by Red Bull is a project close to my heart. But I don’t believe in being both employee and shareholder of the same company. I will focus on my role as a shareholder, I will fulfill it and contribute in a way that I deem sensible and necessary,” Mateschitz said in the broadcast.

Thais support reconstruction
Red Bull was run “as suggested and desired by my father and I and supported by our Thai partners”. Marcus Weber (CMO Beverage Business) will remain responsible for global beverage marketing, reporting to Watzlawick (CEO Beverage Business) and will also hold power of attorney.

“Continue the work of my father in his mind”
Roland Concin, Walter Bachinger and Volker Viechtbauer, who are leaving their previous positions, will remain on board as advisors to Red Bull. “With their experience and know-how, they will support the Board of Directors and ultimately all of us to successfully continue my father’s work in his spirit.”

As directors of Distribution & Marketing GmbH, which owns 49 percent of the shares in Red Bull GmbH and is now owned by Mark Mateschitz, Bachinger and Viechtbauer are expected to “support me personally,” Mateschitz says.
