Ross Boyd of RB + Chartered Accountants under the Belfast Live spotlight –

Date:

Ross Boyd, Director of RB+

Ross Boyd is the founder and CEO of the accounting firm RB+, founded in 2010.

Besides Belfast, the company has offices in Glasgow, London and Dublin.

Here he shares his career story about how the pandemic affected RB+, his favorite places in Belfast – and the dream job that would take him to the Caribbean.

First Name: Ross Boyd

an agency: RB +

Role: Executive Director

What do you do (10 words or less): I Lead the development of accounting and advisory practices for RB+ clients and team.

The three main attributes required for the job: You have to be positive and have a vision or a sense of innovation, but most importantly, you have to be persistent to be a successful leader at something.

Go to this site: The path to this role goes through the training of a qualified accountant. It is a qualification and a profession that I am proud of because it has given me a great opportunity to join the business community.

After training and qualifying, you just have to follow your intuition and of course a little luck will always help you!

What is your dream job (not including your current job)? The captain of charter yachts in the Caribbean.

What are you most proud of (in terms of work)? Building a business has given me a tremendous sense of accomplishment, independence, and freedom. I highly recommend Entrepreneurship to anyone.

What are you most proud of (in life)? Overcoming dyslexia is something I have always been proud of and I am very grateful to those who allowed me to do so.

How has the coronavirus pandemic affected your business and how has it adapted? This actually allowed us to finally get used to the in-house work plan and completely outsmart our cloud solutions. It also forced us to spend extended periods of work and life in the same environment, along with constant change.

Sometimes we were negatively affected and other times we were too busy. The RB+ team are excellent professionals. We have all been incredibly challenged and progressed positively.

What lessons did you learn while locking yourself up? I have learned to take care of my safety with those around me! It is important to stay away from the screen during the day for rest and for various activities such as exercise.

Who is the brightest business mind in Northern Ireland? Northern Ireland is full of amazing people and those who take credit are top notch people! The smartest brains will work now, inventing solutions for the future, perhaps on a hanger or on a computer.

To me, people with long-term influence would be like Seamus Hein because “Life imitates art.”

What would you like to invent? Wheelbarrow. They are everywhere. Why carry a heavy load when you can only move around!

Favorite phone app: I’ve read a lot of news through apps, but my latest favorite was spending time with the kids this fall with Sky View. So much fun and nice for us to be outdoors together.

Aside from Belfast Live and your website, what is your favorite website? This should be Spotify. I love listening to music even if I don’t play or sing a tune. The ability to search for so many species is incredible. I usually listen to indie music, but tonight there’s a Bach thing.

If you spend the day in Belfast, where do you dream of breakfast, lunch, dinner and drink? Breakfast will be a novelty in the coffee establishment. The guys work hard to make excellent coffee. Lunch at Deane’s Fish is always good for a special occasion. For dinner I would recommend The Ginger Bistro and for drinks and music I would probably recommend Katy’s Bar.

Where is your hidden gem in Northern Ireland? Mountaintop, Fermanage. This is a true gem with peaceful views of the Northern Ireland countryside.

What is your favorite place in the world? I chose to live and work in Northern Ireland because I honestly believe it offers a lot. Audley Castle in Strangford has to be a favourite. The combination of sea, forest, tides, history and of course Winterfell is a magical combination.

How would you describe Belfast to someone who has never seen it? Wet and small with a strict look but with a big heart and an ideal location for both city life and the beautiful countryside.

I want after 10 years… I’ve trained several quality professionals and built my business, but I’ve also picked a few other items from my personal package list.
