1.88 million travelers – Vienna Airport is approaching pre-corona levels

Passenger numbers at Vienna Airport were higher in November than a year ago, but the airport is still lagging behind pre-coronavirus levels. With 1.88 million travelers, the Vienna location recorded 68.8 percent more passengers than in 2021, which corresponds to 78.8 percent of the November 2019 pre-crisis level.

Broken down by travel destination, November saw the largest increases in flights to the Far East (361.3 percent), Middle East (99.5 percent), Africa (91 percent) and North America (87.9 percent). In absolute numbers, most passengers flew from Vienna to Western Europe (623,510) and Eastern Europe (153,592), with more than half more than last year.

At the Vienna location, the number of local passengers increased to 1,450,618 passengers (plus 65.1 percent) and that of transfer passengers to 427,908 (plus 82.8 percent). The number of flight movements increased to 15,025 take-offs and landings (plus 21.1 percent). Cargo volume fell by 12.4 percent to 21,452 tons compared to November 2021.

The number of travelers in the entire group (Vienna, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) also rose by 2.35 million, 62.1 percent more than in the same period last year. Passenger traffic at Malta Airport rose to 433,621 travelers (+37.2 percent) in November 2022, which is 87.9 percent of its pre-crisis level. At Kosice Airport, the number of passengers rose to 28,220 travelers (plus 81.5 percent), which was 20.3 percent above the pre-crisis level.
