UGT mourns the loss of an “essential figure” in Spain

Date:

The PSOE emphasizes that “he dedicated his life to the struggle for the rights of workers and citizens”, while Vice President Díaz appreciates his “defense of freedoms”.

After the death of the historic trade union leader Nicolás Redondo Urbieta was announced on Tuesday evening, there have been some reactions from politicians. For example, UGT, the trade union center of which he was general secretary between 1976 and 1994, labeled him “an essential figure of trade unionism in Spain during dictatorship, transition and democracy”.

Second Vice President and Secretary of Labor Yolanda Díaz, for her part, pointed out that Redondo “leaves behind a life dedicated to defending working people, freedoms and democracy”. Likewise, he said goodbye to an “extraordinary trade unionist to whom this country will always be grateful,” he added, extending his condolences to the UGT family.

The PSOE has also already expressed its “affection” to family and friends for the death of a “socialist and a man who devoted his life to the struggle for the rights of workers and citizens. May the earth be light to you, comrade”, the group published in a post on Twitter, collected by Europa Press, along with two photos by Redondo.

Along the same lines, the socialist candidate for the presidency of the Community of Madrid, Juan Lobato, has expressed himself by designating Nicolás Redondo as a “standard for the defense of workers’ rights and dignity” in the country.

The former socialist deputy for Madrid and UGT lawyer, Manuel de la Rocha, also lamented the death of the former general secretary of the UGT and “great labor leader, defender of the rights of workers and workers, a benchmark of Spanish socialism”.
