Also visit Voest – U.S. Secretary of Labor Walsh when visiting Austria

Date:

US Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh will visit Austria on Thursday. As the US Embassy announced, its talks with government and business representatives focus on deepening bilateral cooperation on dual apprenticeships.

Walsh and his colleague Martin Kocher (ÖVP) visited the voestalpine training center in Linz on Thursday. Visits to other companies are also planned.

Expansion internship program planned
“Expanding dual apprenticeships is critical to creating quality jobs in new and emerging industries,” said the Democratic politician and former union leader. “With the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the US and Austria in April 2022 to expand internship programs in both countries, we aim to improve career advancement opportunities for young people.”

The agreement was signed by the then Minister of Economic Affairs Margarete Schramböck (ÖVP) during a visit to the United States. Minister of Labor Kocher had to cancel participation in the trip at short notice due to a corona case in his family environment. Together with Walsh, the Austrian delegation also visited a factory of the Tyrolean timber company Egger in North Carolina. There the Austro training method was brought closer to the Americans and was judged by them to be very practical.
