With the start of a new month, citizens are waiting for their unemployment benefits to be paid
Citizens who are unemployed in Spain can access unemployment. Those who meet the necessary requirements can enjoy a monthly amount. According to the website of the Public State Employment Service (SEPE), they can enjoy this unemployment benefit, provided that they are in one of the defined statutory unemployment situations and have the required minimum contribution period and are not in any of the incompatibility situations.
The non-contributory benefit protects the unemployment situation of those who, because they are able and willing to work, have temporarily or permanently lost their job. To access this benefit, citizens must meet a series of requirements and meet the employee’s prior unemployment contribution to Social Security. The SEPE is the body responsible for managing and monitoring unemployment benefits.
With the start of a new month, unemployed citizens wait for the moment to collect unemployment benefits. Unfortunately, in many cases it is the only income, so the beneficiaries are very careful about their income. The SEPE is responsible for setting an official date to pay the money for this benefit to citizens, but depending on the entity or bank, this can be brought forward or delayed.
The General Treasury of Social Security (TGSS) is responsible for releasing the allocated amount so that the SEPE can give all the help to the unemployed. When the exact number of unemployed is known at the end of each month, the agency allocates the funds for payment. This is why unemployment, like other support, is not always paid on the same day of each month.
Before collecting the unemployment benefit, the affected person must register as a job seeker at the SEPE offices. Depending on when the employment relationship ended, the dismissed person may take more or less to process his benefits. It is possible that the collection will be delayed if there is an incident in the process and also depending on the day the discharge was processed.
The SEPE is responsible for paying the benefits to the unemployed at the beginning of the month. Unemployment is not always charged on the same day, the SEPE pays this amount to the beneficiaries around the 10th of each month. As explained by the SEPE at the time, “Under normal circumstances, the payment of benefits will be made on the 10th or, if it is a holiday, the next business day of each month.”
Some banking entities advance unemployment benefits to their customers through pre-established agreements. Banks such as Santander, Unicaja, CaixaBank or BBVA usually pay the payment before the 10th of the month.
